Scary Stuff!!

Last night went to see Paranormal Activity, and it got me thinking about scary films and what has frightened me in the past. When I was a kid a lot of things freaked me out, toys, films and even stupid objects. Till this day I still have a fear of balloons and dolls, but as a kid certain hand puppets and even those wooden toys that fell apart when you pushed a button on the bottom scared the hell out of me. My cousin’s collection of toys was terrifying, monsters with chains, heads that the eye balls popped out of and a giant rubber spider. I remember my aunt made my cousins hide the toys when I would come over!!
The films that scared the pants off me would not scare the pants off a normal child. Films like Ghostbusters, Jurassic Park and even Who Framed Roger Rabbit! Well come on who is not a bit scared of demon dogs and Zuul, and that scene were Sigourney Weaver is pulled through her living room on her settee!! And come on a T-rex taking out a toilet block and raptors hunting small children in a kitchen, when I saw that at the cinema I left to go to the loo at least 3 times, my parents had to go see it again because they missed so much of it! So a lot of people do not understand why Roger Rabbit freaked me out so much, I can not understand how kids are not freaked out by it still. It is only one scene, right at the end of the film, but still as a kid I feared reaching the end of the film. One line, one character turns the film evil, well he is the bad guy so you can not blame him for being a bit scary, but getting run over by a steam roller and then changing into an a bald headed, poppy red eyed manic is pant wetting. The line that puts the cherry on top is none over then, “Remember me, Eddie? When I killed your brother, I talked... just... like... THIS!”, its how high his voice is at the end and his eyes popping out his bloody head. Also, just remembered this, when his arm turns into a saw, my god!!
These days it takes a lot to scare me, film wise that is. Paranormal was good, one friend asked me to rate it out of 10 and I said 7, it may have gotten an 8 if it was not for the audience. I hate students, maybe more then chavs!! This group decided that everyone wanted to hear their views “OOOO that was scary” “O MY GOD I jumped then!”. Without this and you replace it with a silent cinema, I think that would have made it that much better, making every scary moment more of a surprise.

Now for a new and maybe continued feature, Jonny’s Final Thought.

“Paranormal Activity has been over hyped but still is one of the scariest horrors in a long time. And when I was a child, I was terrified of paedophiles.”

The Future of Entertainment

Ok so I’m sitting in my lounge and Jonny is chatting at me about me playing a character in a porn web series called something anal. He just informed me the first name was Anthony, now it has changed to Allen. Now he is chatting to Nicola about something or other his mind is everywhere. So the point is I think it would be fun to make a web series. Maybe it is because of things like Zomblog, and the fact I do like nothing with my free time, and the web series idea is a pretty open field. Wait update on Jonny’s idea, I’m now a painter who stalkers girls and creates art around them. Now Jonny tells me it is a fact that Rhino’s are aliens because they have horns.
Today I discovered two new things that I liked a lot. The first was a rock group called, Northern Kings, a cover band from Finland, featuring heavy metal/classical music. My god it takes a lot of guts to do rock covers of songs like “My Way”, “Take On Me” and “I Should be so Lucky”, just amazing. I had to remind myself that I have no money so I can not afford to buy the albums, let us thank god for Spotify.
The second thing I discovered was because of friend and housemate Jonny (already talked about him in this blog). A new American series called Glee. The show focuses on a group of high school kids who join the “Glee” club, a kind of musical after school club. It feels like a grown up version of High School Musical or that awful British show on ITV, but in Glee that they do not just break into song and the singing only feels forced a tiny bit in some scenes, but in most places it feels real. The acting is pretty good and the main storylines seem to jump well between 3 of the main characters, 2 of the pupils and 1 teacher. The 3 main characters each have a narrator letting the viewer have a better look at their lives both at school and at home. Also the range of ages of the characters really opens this up to a bolder viewing audience.
As it has taken me a while to write this up, as I have been thinking of ideas for a web drama with Jonny, I will now wrap it up and go to bed as tomorrow I got to be in work early and also in the evening it will be time for some good old comedy gold with Ricky Gervais. So till the next time of random chatter, bye bye!!

P.s Time travelling man from the 50’s was one of the last ideas to come from Jonny, a character I would play with a cockney accent!

History of my Bad Taste

So just over a year ago I finished Uni and stepped out into the big world, ready to join the full time workers and to leave student life style behind me. Well I now work full time as a kitchen porter at the local Picturehouse cinema, City Screen. I live in a student house with two other ex students. I still eat a diet of total rubbish and always find ways of getting out of cleaning. So let me recap, in the last year I have managed not to change at all! So what do I do in my spare time, instead of looking for a job in my field, I like to go to the cinema, waste hours online, spend time with Mel, and watch a lot of TV and DVDs. I do what most people do in their spare time, but I would like to hope that most people do not watch the kind of things that I watch.
Let us step back in time about 4 years maybe 5, who knows maybe more. We are in the home of my best friend, Kevin, and we are bored wanting something to do. Cue Michael Kennedy holding a pile of what seems to be DVDs. Indeed it was DVDs, when looking closer it was easy to see that these films seem to fall under the genre of horror. Grabbing the first one at hand we put on the film waiting to be scared, how wrong we where! The film was in titled “The Unseen” and starred an actress called Barbara Bach (who I have just found out was a bond girl in The Spy Who Loved Me), and after about ten minutes it was easy to see that we where going to be laughing more then hiding behind the sofa. It was awful, or what I can remember of it anyway. That was the beginning of a love for bad films and the continued mention of Barbara Bach. Every time we would sit in kev’s room and wonder what to do, my answer was always the same, “Let’s watch one of those bad movies Kev’s dad has given him”. Kitch and Steve would always seem to hate this idea, so in the end I only got to see a few of these films, and from what I can remember I think they where; two random squeals of “The Howling”, a film about America vampire collage students, a zombie movie and a film with the word toxic/mutant high school in it.
Time passed and I started to guide away from those types of films and my collection would not include any bad films till my second year of uni. So what do I call a bad movie, I say what do I call a bad movie, as everyone has their own opinion. For me it seems to be a film that I have the opposite reaction too. So for example if a scene should be scary and I’m having a good laugh, that is the type of thing that swings it towards a bad movie. Normally it depends on the production of the film, so if it is straight to video the chance is that it is going to be pretty bad. But that is only my opinion. So I end this blog, with the promise of going into more detail about some of the films in my collection, which include, Snakes on a Train, Sickle, Dead Scared and Earth Alien.
Till next time, I’m off to add “Jack Said” to my lovefilm list, a film advertised in the adverts of XXX 2: The Next Level and starring Danny Dyer. Just what the doctor ordered!!

The reason for wasting your time

Hello, I would like to start by saying welcome to my Blog. The reason that I have decided to create a blog, was because so many of my friends seemed to enjoy sharing their thoughts online, so I’m giving it ago. Why have I used the title “Fan of Bad Movies”, as my friends continue to remind me I have a great taste in movies!! I hope you enjoy this window into my mind and you continue to read. Thank You
